Trust- Learning to Trust Yourself again.
Trust — Learning to Trust Yourself Again
Trust is a word we hear all the time.
Trust the process.
Trust the journey.
Trust that everything will work out.
But if I’m being honest, trusting life was never the hardest part for me.
Trusting myself was.
Because before recovery, before transformation, before all the growth, I spent years breaking trust with myself.
I lied.
I manipulated.
I took shortcuts.
I made promises I didn’t keep.
I abandoned my values when things became uncomfortable.
And eventually, the person I trusted the least became the one staring back at me in the mirror.
That’s what makes trust so different.
It’s not just believing things will get better.
It’s believing that when life gets difficult, you’ll show up differently than you used to.
And that takes time.
Because trust isn’t built through words.
It’s built through evidence.
One choice.
One day.
One promise kept at a time.
That’s how trust returns.
And even after transformation, trust continues to be tested.
Not through crisis.
Through uncertainty.
Because there’s still a part of us that wants to control everything.
A part that wants guarantees.
A part that wants to know exactly how the story ends before we’re willing to take the next step.
That’s where trust becomes difficult.
Because trust requires us to stop trying to dictate every detail of how life unfolds.
It asks us to stay the course even when we can’t see the whole path.
It asks us to trust the work we’ve done.
To trust the values we’ve built.
To trust the person we’ve become.
And maybe most importantly…
To trust that we don’t need to abandon ourselves every time life becomes uncomfortable.
That’s growth.
Not controlling the outcome.
Remaining aligned while moving toward it.
The truth is, many of us spent years trying to avoid uncertainty.
We wanted immediate relief.
Immediate answers.
Immediate results.
But trust and patience walk together.
Because if I truly trust the process, I don’t need to force the outcome.
I can do my part.
I can stay present.
I can continue moving forward.
And I can allow life to unfold in its own time.
That doesn’t mean I sit back and do nothing.
It means I stop fighting every twist and turn in the road.
Because when I look back honestly, the journey itself shaped me.
The rough parts.
The smooth parts.
The victories.
The setbacks.
The moments of confidence.
The moments of fear.
All of it mattered.
All of it built the person I am today.
Which leads me to a realization I couldn’t see before:
The journey wasn’t getting in the way.
The journey was creating me.
And if that’s true…
Maybe I can stop resisting every detour.
Maybe I can stop demanding certainty.
Maybe I can stop trying to control every outcome.
Maybe I can trust.
Not because I know exactly where life is going.
But because I trust who I’ve become while walking it.
Reflective Questions
Where have you broken trust with yourself in the past?
What evidence do you have today that you’re becoming someone more trustworthy?
Are you trusting the process… or trying to control it?
What uncertainty are you struggling to accept right now?
What changes when you trust yourself enough to stay the course?
With trust and patience,
Mike 💪🏻
